What does Domestic Assistance look like?
Domestic Assistance covers the everyday, practical tasks that keep a home running smoothly. Under the Support at Home program, Domestic Assistance sits within the Everyday Living category, alongside services like Home Maintenance and Meals.
With Chris Barnard Health, Domestic Assistance can include:
- House cleaning, keeping your home tidy, hygienic, and comfortable
- Laundry, washing, drying, folding, and putting things away
- Shopping assistance, help with groceries and everyday essentials, whether that’s a shopping list, a trip together, or having items picked up for you
It’s the kind of support that often goes unnoticed until it’s missing, and once it’s in place, it quietly makes daily life feel a whole lot more manageable.
How is Domestic Assistance Funded?
Domestic Assistance sits within the Everyday Living category of Support at Home. This means, unlike clinical services such as Nursing or Physiotherapy, a contribution generally applies, usually somewhere between 17.5% and 80%, based on your income and assets. Your Care Partner will walk you through exactly what applies to your situation, and help you plan Domestic Assistance into your quarterly budget in a way that suits your priorities.
Not yet receiving government funding, or want a little more help around the house than your care plan currently covers? We also offer privately funded Domestic Assistance, so a clean, comfortable home is never out of reach.
Why Domestic Assistance Matters More than People Think?
A cluttered, unclean, or poorly maintained home isn’t just uncomfortable, it can genuinely affect safety and wellbeing. Trip hazards build up. Hygiene becomes harder to maintain. Simple tasks that used to take minutes can start to feel overwhelming, or even risky.
Beyond the practical side, there’s real peace of mind in knowing your home is looked after. Many of our clients tell us the same thing: it’s not just about a clean house, it’s about walking back into a space that feels calm, comfortable, and cared for.
What Makes Our Domestic Assistance Different?
Done Your Way, Not Just Done
We know everyone has their own way of doing things, how the kitchen is organised, which detergent you prefer, what “clean” actually means to you. Your Care Partner takes the time to understand your preferences and routines, so Domestic Assistance is shaped around your home, not a generic checklist.
Reliable Help You Can Count On
Whether it’s a weekly clean, help with laundry, or a hand with the weekly shop, our support workers show up consistently and treat your home with the same care and respect they’d want for their own.
Your Rights, Our Commitment
Every service we provide, including Domestic Assistance, is guided by your rights under the Aged Care Act 2024. That means you always have the right to:
- Make decisions about your care and how your home is looked after
- Be treated with dignity and respect, always
- Be involved in planning your services, including who delivers them
- Speak up if something isn’t working, and know you’ll genuinely be heard
Who Can Access Domestic Assistance?
Domestic Assistance is available if you’re an eligible Support at Home participant, generally aged 65 or over (50 or over for First Nations people) and needing coordinated support to stay safely and independently at home. It’s also available to younger people living with disability, dementia, or other care needs not met through other specialist services.
Why Choose Chris Barnard Health for Domestic Assistance?
The same trusted face in your home, week after week. Because we invest in our own workforce rather than relying on rotating agency staff, you’re far more likely to have the same support worker looking after your home consistently, someone who already knows how you like things done, rather than starting from scratch each visit.
